Cascade of ponds

June, 2021

Have you seen the cascade of ponds? If not, do put it on your to do list for a visit. They are gorgeous and the newest pond has a fountain! The grass area is being extended so that picnickers and future wedding parties will have plenty of space to spread out.

The cascade of ponds is part of the work undertaken on lining the Watercourse upstream from the Lake. The lining consists of a geotextile fabric underlying sandstone rocks and boulders. This lining prevents erosion of the stream bed, while allowing water to penetrate through to the subsoil, thereby maintaining a high-water table in the soil.

At end of May, the Lake remains full despite a continuing 3-week dry spell, due to continuing seepage of groundwater into the dam. This suggests that the retention ponds completed already are working as planned.

The financing of this project, which is nearing completion, has been provided by  a Federal Government Grant, from the Communities Environmental Programme, for “The Restoration of the Lake Wildlife Sanctuary.
